Phantasmagoria: Circus of Dreams

Projection & Technical Design | Loose Leaf Collective/VCC Bachelor of Performing Arts | January 2015

“Sleep is an evolutionary mystery, a little slice of death, or a visit from a candy-coloured clown they call the Sandman - depending on whether you’re a psychiatrist, a poet of the macabre or a fan of Blue Velvet. The land of slumber is also the subject of Phantasmagoria: Circus of dreams…One of the main projection images in Phantasmagoria is a giant clock. Time runs through the show as the circus moves from one stage of sleep to another.” - Jeremy Shepherd, North Shore News, January 2015

For Phantasmagoria we designed a sequence that included a dragon. I was tasked with making the dragon breathe fire. We elected to go with flash cotton and a simple hand cannon operated by the puppeteer.

A look at the performance of Phantasmagoria: Circus of Dreams, presented in the 2015 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. All creative and technical elements were created by the Loose Leaf Collective as part of the Bachelor of Performing Arts program. Music: Lullabye by Angela Zieleniewski.
